Out and about - Road Trip to Winthrop, Washington

Road Trip to Winthrop, Washington via the North Cascade Highway

We have lived in Western Washington many years and this is the first time we have driven North Cascade Highway from Darrington on the west side to Winthrop in the east.

What a great road trip through old growth 250-foot-high Douglas firs, pass Diablo Lake's turquoise-blue waters, over 5,477 Washington Pass and Rainy Pass, then on through the Methow Valley to a bit of the Old West in Winthrop.

Out and about - Lombardi’s Italian Restaurant and Bergevin Lane Vineyards wine dinner

Out and about…

Lombardi’s Italian Restaurant and Bergevin Lane Vineyards wing dinner hosted by Lombardi's founder Diane Symms and Bergevin Lane Vineyards Winemaker Dave Harvey…

Lombardi’s Italian Restaurant and Bergevin Lane Vineyards

About the Winery

The winery a 20,000 square foot facility with capacity to produce 20,000 cases annually. 22 five ton stainless steel fermenting tank plus two larger tanks lay out the landscape in an “industrially hip” setting. On the side, 1.5 ton stainless steel punch down fermenters. 3 temperature controlled/humidified barrel rooms aid in the malolactic conversion, white barrel fermentation and aging process of the wines and a fully equipped onsite laboratory.

Production

They produce around 11,000 cases annually—with the majority of that wine bottled under the “Calico” labels. The lots of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Viognier and reserve wines are very limited and range from 150 cases to 800 on average.

Dave Harvey, Winemaker

Dave Harvey joined Bergevin Lane with over 19 years of winemaking experience in Washington State working for notable wineries such as Townshend Cellars, Gordon Brothers and Terra Blanca.
