10/10/10 Sojen Cellars Everett the Crush is on…

Sunday afternoon we joined Max and Jen Jensen’s and a group of friends at Sojen Cellars winery located in Everett, Washington. Max just made the trip from Eastern Washington wine country with a truck full of syrah and Viognier grapes. Our job was to clean the equipment, keep the winery clean, crush the grapes, and press the Viognier.

The non glamorous part of wine making is the cleaning. Cleaning and sweeping, over and over again…

Pressing the Viognier was a blast, work but fun. Watching the must (juice) flow into the bucket was interesting. Some folks were taking the grape press cake ( skins after pressing) home to compost.

Most of the evening we spent crushing the syrah, by the way the grapes were delicious. Can’t wait to taste Sojen Cellars 2010…

A Monday night at Cristiano’s Pizza etc. Maysville, Washington

Cristiano’s Pizza etc.***
Marysville, Washington
360.653.8356

The best thing about Cristiano’s is the value (*** for value). For instance a personal size pizza and their salad combo will run you under $9. You get your choice of toppings for the pizza, and you can choose any salad off their menu.

Talking about their salads the Mediterranean salad is a mound of romaine, topped with black olives, tomatoes, and herb vinaigrette. The spinach salad is a spinach leaves, chopped bacon, and sliced mushrooms served with a small silver dish of warm vinaigrette. These salads are huge, enough for two people to split...

Friday Wine Tasting, Appetizers and Music – The Sequel and Saturday's Lombardi's Small Bits - Choose Your Adventure Wine Tasting...

Click on the picture to see movie
Wicked Cellars
Yes it’s another Wine Tasting at Wicked Cellars, Everett Washington. We were treated this Friday by having Kevin Correll winemaker and owner of Barrage Cellars on hand to share his passion.

Kevin has long been interested in wine and spent years in home wine-making before a two-year stint with David and Linda Lowe at Wineglass Cellars in Yakima Valley. Next came his U.C. Davis degree in wine-making and then finally the birth of Barrage Cellars.

Why the name Barrage Cellars? Since the winery started out in Kevin's garage before moving to a barn, the name "Barrage" just came naturally.

Barrage Cellars is located in Woodinville, Washington in the Woodinville Warehouse District. They are one of the 27 other wineries and tasting rooms in the district.

You could say that Kevin's the "new guy' in the famous Woodinville Warehouse District, but his first vintage, the 2005 "Alias" Cabernet Franc earned an "Outstanding" from the Seattle Wine Awards as did his 2006 Cabernet Franc "Secret Weapon." His Nuclear Chardonnay received a "Silver" from both the Seattle and San Francisco Wine Awards where his Trifecta Merlot earned "Bronzes" in each event. Finally his 2008 Riesling recently earned an "Outstanding Award of Excellence" from the Seattle Wine Awards.

Our next stop was Lombardi’s Neighborhood Italian, Everett Washington. Not a big surprise we go there quit often. Lombardi’s has the best happy hour and small plate menu. We shared their roasted garlic and olive oil, seared Ahi tuna carpaccio (my favorite), chicken skewers.

We have not been disappointed by any of the talent playing at Sojen Cellars this summer.
A great time was had by all…

Saturday's Lombardi's Neighborhood Italian Restaurant Everett Wine and Small Bits - Choose Your Adventure Wine Tasting...

Wine tasting events, especially when paired with food are a fun way to try different combination and taste. Lombardi’s of Everett has come up with a affordable wine pairing called Wine and Small Bits. Saturday we were treated to something a little different. Six wines, three each white and red and a plate of cheeses, fruits and meats. We were to try different combinations of wines and foods, then have conversation about how they match. What fun…
